DBM and PERFORM at the Human-Computer Interaction International Conference 2019 in Orlando, Florida (USA)

Dr. Andreas Auinger, Gabriele Obermeier and Robert Zimmermann, researchers at the department of Digital Business at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria attended the Human-Computer International Conference 2019 in Orlando.

Human-Computer Interaction and Digital Retail

Students and supervisors of the PERFORM project attended the 21st Human-Computer Interaction International Conference, which took place in Orlando, in the sunshine state Florida, USA, from 26th to 31st of July 2019. Dr Andreas Auinger, Dr Martin Stabauer (Digital Business Management, JKU), Gabriele Obermeier, and Robert Zimmermann joined the conference to present the results of their most recent research and meet colleagues from the field of human-computer interaction (HCI). The following papers have been presented by our colleagues from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and are available in Springer’s LNCS Conference Proceedings of HCI in Business, Government and Organizations (Vol. 11588 and 11589):

  • Human-Computer Interaction in Physical Retail Environments and the Impact on Customer Experience: Systematic Literature Review and Research Agenda by Gabriele Obermeier and Andreas Auinger (see Springer Link for full text)
  • Smartphones as an Opportunity to Increase Sales in Brick-and-Mortar Stores: Identifying Sales Influencers Based on a Literature Review by Robert Zimmermann, Andreas Auinger, and René Riedl (see Springer Link for full text)
  • Prohibiting Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in Companies: Effectiveness and Efficiency vs. Satisfaction by Andreas Auinger and Werner Wetzlinger (see Springer Link for full text)

Highlights during the Conference

In addition to the interesting paper presentations from all research fields of HCI, Robert and Gabriele were able to attend an exclusive mentoring session held by the founder of the conference, Professor Gavriel Salvendy. The well-established researcher shared his experiences with only a limited amount of students and talked about managing the own research project, career opportunities in the industry or science and his personal career.

The location of the conference venue in Orlando enabled a short trip to the John F. Kennedy Space Center on the east coast of Florida, exactly one week after the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the first moon landing. The entire research group was very excited to visit the location where space exhibitions of NASA and Space X still begin their journey to space.
